Printer Drawer Jewelry Display

Isn't it different? Looks easy, right?!? Well, that was a feat much harder than it appeared. My fingers hurt, like they hurt when I decided to learn to play the guitar and played for a few hours. Ouch!
Here's what it looked like when I bought the drawer.
(Hey look! There's the Butterfly Desk in its prior life.)

I ended up having to hammer in holes in each space then twisting the small loop hooks in to the extremely hard old wood. Ha! My plan was to put two loops in each nook, but forget that! One is fine by me. I will keep my fingers, thank you. ;)

After about 3 different "go at it till my fingers could take it no more", it was done!

I am debating whether or not to put hooks on the bottom so I can hang necklaces on it. I think I am just going to hang it up and see what I think after a week or so. I just don't want to over do it. To me, the drawer is the frame...so I think it may be too much having necklaces hanging from it too.

If you like it, go for it, try it. Just take some Tylenol before you put those fingers to work. :)

Oh yeah, If you do take this on, Hobby Lobby has the smaller loop screws. I should have known to go there before going to HD or Lowes. ;) And if you figure out an easier way to do this, PLEASE let me know! Thanks!

  6. I have one similar that I made from a "house" looking shelf thingy I got @ a yard sale.. If I had a blog I could show you.. All I have is a Facebook page though (dragonflies & dreams).. I put 5 hooks in each cubby.. 45 total!! and my fingers hurt that bad too.. yours looks wonderful.. i hung my necklaces on mine & decided i didn't like it so i am making the pottery barn knockoff frames for them instead

  7. This turned out beautifully! One of my favorite Etsy shops sells these - I wanted one, but didn't want to part with the $ so I made one back in January. I'm in total agreement - those little eye screws were the worst! I even drilled teeny-tiny starter holes first!

  13. Great idea! I pass these drawers up all the time because I don't know what to do with them.
Another suggestion...my hubby has a small flat head screw driver with a slit in the end of it. He cut it with his saw on the Dremel tool. I would put the screws hooks in at an angle and use the cordless screw driver to screw them in. That would sure save some painful fingers!

  15. Hi Nicole your Printer Tray facelift looks great. I know what you mean about your fingers killing you. I thought with just the few I put in I was going to take off the skin!! I actually have the same large printer tray too, but I don't have enough wall space for that!! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.
